Margaret Anderson Kelliher Stands Up for Reproductive Health and Choice
Margaret Anderson Kelliher Endorsed by Roofers and Waterproofers Local 96
When all people have full control over their own health and reproductive freedom, they gain the agency to live by their own choices. We should all have access to the health care we need, no matter what.
I strongly support efforts to provide better access to contraception and ensure that people are empowered to make their own decisions about when to start and when to grow their families. While in the Minnesota Legislature, I was the chief author of bills to provide emergency contraception in emergency rooms. However, family planning shouldn’t just be an emergency decision.
I stand with organizations like Planned Parenthood that provide affordable, quality care to communities across the nation. In my own family, I was a client of Planned Parenthood in rural Minnesota as a student, and proudly share this with others. My own niece’s life was saved by a Planned Parenthood visit in Mankato where she was diagnosed with cancer in her early 20s. She is a survivor today because of early care and treatment: first for a contraceptive visit, but ultimately for her health. I am appalled by Republicans’ repeated attempts to defund Planned Parenthood and will oppose any efforts to deprive anyone of access to the care and services they deserve.
I have always been a strong proponent of health care freedom, and I worked throughout my tenure in the Minnesota Legislature to protect women’s fundamental right to choose. I was the chief author of the Reproductive Privacy Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade in Minnesota and prevent the state from interfering in reproductive health decisions.
As Speaker of the House, I appointed pro-choice chairs to key health and budget committees, and I presided over narrow floor defeats of anti-choice amendments, breaking tie votes on legislation such as a proposed restriction to state-funded health programs. I also have been personally supportive of young doctors training to perform comprehensive reproductive services at the University of Minnesota.
Our health has been repeatedly attacked under this administration and Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Kavanagh could affect decisions for the next half-century. In Congress, I will work with our Senators to fight this and any other attempts to undermine reproductive rights.
Margaret Supports the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children
"No one has fought more for our union values, equality in the workplace, apprenticeships and middle-class wages than Margaret. She has a proven track record of getting things done for Minnesota workers, and we at the Roofers and Waterproofers Local 96 are proud to support her."
Margaret Joins Senator Carolyn Laine in Columbia Heights for Community Meeting with Retirees
The 5th District is home to many wonderful farmers markets including the Government Center Farmers Market open on Tuesdays from 9 am - 3 pm. Unfortunately, the Administration and the GOP are targeting the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, known as WIC. Our progress makes it possible for low-income women and families to use WIC at Farmers Markets and cuts to these programs are unacceptable.
Margaret Stands Up for Children at Free Our Future March
Today, I joined Senator Carolyn Laine in Columbia Heights. We heard from retirees in our community who are worried about increasing costs for health care. We made a promise to our seniors and I will fight against Republican efforts to privatize Social Security and cut Medicare benefits. We need to protect the retirement plans for millions of Americans who have paid into those programs with hard work in every paycheck.
Early Voting and Absentee Voting Begins June 29 for the August 14 Election
Enough is enough - it is time to abolish ICE.
On June 30, I joined Minnesotans in sending a message to the Trump Administration that we will not accept policies of hate.
ICE is a recently created federal agency started by George W. Bush in 2002 and it is being used cruelly by Donald Trump as a weapon to break apart families.

Margaret Anderson Kelliher Attends Pride
I stand with workers and the unions that have helped reduce gender pay gaps and improve outcomes for families. As the daughter of a small dairy farmer, I know how important the unions are to protecting the livelihoods of Minnesotans. I have been a champion for Minnesotan unions and as the Member of Congress for Minnesota's 5th District, I will continue to fight for our working families. #UnionStrong
Margaret Anderson Kelliher Attends Father's Day Rallies to Protect Children and Families
This weekend, I joined neighbors and friends at Twin Cities Pride. Pride is an opportunity to celebrate the progress we’ve made toward equal rights for all LBGTQ Americans. Today was also a somber moment for the community to have important conversations about the challenges we all continue to face.
As I spoke with Minnesotans, I was reminded that we are stronger when we come together and embrace the value our diversity brings to our communities.
It was an energizing Father’s Day taking my message to voters across the 5th Congressional District. In Congress, I will fight for a Children’s Immigrants Bill of Rights to protect children and families from this demonizing behavior of the current administration.
